You can go to the hall of records or if the home is really old you might have to do the research at the local library. The records may be in your city or if its small it may be at the county seat.

There really is no official record of this.

You may go to the local archives of the news papers in your area and search for the address.

You can look up prior owners at the recorder of deeds office, and then you try and find them or their family members to ask them. You find older people who have always lived in the area and talk to them.

Excellent suggestions. I would definitely procure any documentation on the property from City Hall for details on construction, age, other history. For the houses past, I would check the library for newspaper article history on the address or neighborhood. Specific abnormal activity is unlikely to be documented, but crimes and newsworthy happenings would be available in the local news archives at your library.
