We woke up to to use the bathroom and my wife said it was almost overflowing with water. She tried plunging and no luck, wouldn't go down. I went to the other bathroom and same thing. I tried plunging and noticed the bathtub filling with water I assume was coming from my plunging the toilet. That's about it.

I know what would cause this but the sequence of events as you describe would not happen like this, the tub would fill first. A main drain clog will cause the whole house to start holding water/sewage. As the amount builds the pipes all fill and back up into the very lowest fixture, the tub or shower. Plunge any one of these fixtures will cause the others to rise. You need to have your main rodded and it could be hundreds of feet or just a few feet. If I had to guess I'd go with the hundreds of feet out where your main connects to the city sewer riser

Is there a problem with your sinks? It could be blockage in your line.

Hi DIYdeeva...

Thanks for posting, but the issue will be exactly as Ballenger suggested. Here, when the toilets and flat bottomed fixtures (tub/shower) are involved you can be sure the issue is in the main drain line either to the bathroom or to the entire house.

Good day!
