I replaced the drain line on a tub. I also changed the direction of this line going to the main sewer line. The pitch is at a 1/4" per foot angle, I think, but all of a sudden the tub is draining slower than before. Does there need to be more of a pitch? Or what else could be causing it to drain slower?

HI Jamoss57...

When you cut into the drain line was the drain line messy? If it was a messy drain line then it is very possible that some of the gunk in the lines got disturbed and is creating a small clog in the drain line.

If this is the case, remove the overflow plate from the tub and snake down the oveflow to clear the blockage. Keep say 3" of water in the tub while you are snaking to help churn and clean the mess and it should clear pretty easy...;)

Otherwise, did you do anything else to the drain line like lift it higher than the 1/4"... like add fittings to jump the drain up? If you jumped the drain line up AFTER the tub vent then that in itself would be the issue... can't do that. If not, try as posted above... should get you up and draining smoothly again!
