Hi Im in a terrible position with a pregnancy Im a single mother of a young son only one years old. I have no family or friends for support and have no money to support another child. I cannot afford to go to a private clinic as Im living in Ireland and therefore not entitled to any funding for an abortion. I know how negative some who read this may feel and think I'm selfish but I'm thinking of the unborn child too. My only option is a site I found called women on web that supplies the abortion pill in the post by a registered doctor. Has anyone heard of this site and how safe do you think this is. I am pretty desperate for advice.

I have to admit that I really don't know much about the abortion pill, so I looked it up.

It seems to be effective, and it does give you the option of being at home, but there are some possible side effects, and you do have to be less than 8 weeks pregnant.

I haven't heard of the web site you're referring to. I'd be weary of any site that offers medication. You can't be certain that the person they claim is a registered doctor really is what he/she claims to be.

Also, from what I read, the first dose of the pill must be given by a doctor, not taken at home. They do an ultrasound to confirm that you're less than 8 weeks along. Then you usually speak with a counselor that will explain how the pill works and answers any of your questions. They review your health history to make sure that the abortion pill is safe for you. At that time, if you meet the criteria, they'll give you the mifepristone at the clinic. You'll then get the 4 pack of misoprostol to take at home within 24 to 72 hours.

I also don't know much about Ireland, and have no idea how the health care system there works.

What about the baby's father? It's his responsibility too. Can he afford to help with this?

I would just feel a lot safer if you had this done by a legitimate doctor, and not go through a website.

Whatever you choose, I wish you all the best.

They are registered in Canada and have a lot of bad press for selling and pushing abortions without doctor care. And for selling abortion pills in countries where they are not legal.

So yes if you wish to kill a baby and perhaps yourself in the process, this group would be more than willing to help

Just want to add that the info I stated above was found here:

http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCQQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fwhc.org%2Fabortion%2Fmedical-ab.htm&rct=j&q=abortion%20pill&ei=MjwqTeX5J4nGsAPazZjNBw&usg=AFQjCNEahLvnxbpe66YDeEKNTxw30EN41A&cad=rja

After reading further, I really do have to advise that you don't do this with no doctor supervision.

There is risk of heavy bleeding. Also, if the pill doesn't work, you will have to have an aspiration abortion. You may need a blood transfusion. You will need a follow up exam 2 weeks after taking the pill to see if it worked. Some women need a D&C to remove pregnancy tissue that remains.

This is just to risky to do without the care of an actual hands on physician.

Is there an Irish Family Planning Association clinic near year? You should find some guidance and support there. Pact is another source of information regarding your options along with helping you understand what financial support services you have available to you as a single parent. Have you considered the option of adoption as a possibility as well?

I would warn against using the services of Women on Web as well. There are too many potential risks all the way around, and you would not have the follow-up care you could need.

I'm sure everything will work out.

It will be a struggle, but you sound like a strong, determined, intelligent person. You'll find a way to make it work. Never stop believing in yourself, and enjoy your kids, they really are worth it.

Keep us posted. We're always here if you need advice, or if you just need to vent. :)

Hi you
I was there myself 2months ago and I got brilliant support from Women on web They gave me the help I needed without judging me respecting my choice and my rights I am so grateful to them all for doing such a great job!
Your question was is women on web safe? So I would answer yes it is!
Seems that everyone took a chance to advise you whether keeping or not the pregnancy though that wasn't your question
Hope now you'll find help from everyone here you advised you to keep the baby knowing you're ALONE with a young toddler.
Sorry but too many people to judge and not enough to help women on web saved my life and they don't push anyone to have abortion just try to give the opportunity to every women to chose.
Wish you all the best with your pregnancy
