Curious as to some thoughts on this --
I am working a 2.5 story balloon framed home. On the second floor, I am installing two 1 3/4" 9.5" lvl's to span a distance of about 11 feet. The lvl is running parallel to the floor joists, but supporting perpendicular joists on the 3rd (converted attic) level floor.
I've traced down one point load through the 1st floor into the basement and onto a concrete footer. My issue is the other point load -- the lvl is going to be running into the exterior balloon framed wall (gable end). Any ideas as to the best way of supporting this lvl? If I run jack studs what's the best way of terminating them.. I was also toying with the idea of a joist hanger for the lvl, but I am worried about putting that much lateral pressure on the wall...
Any thoughts appreciated
