My mother is a sociopath and con artist. She's stole identities for 20 plus years and gotten away with it. She abandon me at 6 months old to my father who I thank god for every day. In recent years, I've discovered I am the first of approx 10 children. Most of which were in and out of foster care or stayed in foster care until they aged out. I found out recently that my mother has a new daughter that is almost 3 years old. This child is only 9 months older then my own child. (I am 28 years old). I've found out this child's father is a convicted child molester. He had to return to prison for violation of his parole for living with my mother and the child. He is due to be released in the next month and my mother has arranged for him to be able to return to the home where this child is. I have never met this sister, but have been lucky enough to see pictures. My husband and I are not wealthy, but we are honest, hard working, established parents of our own daughter and want to bring my little sister into our home and raise her as our own. The biggest problem is my sister is on the other side of the U.S. (many states away). I also am concerned because I also have a sister in the same state the almost 3 year old sister is in and she is willing to take the little one from my mother as well, but she is only 20 years old and unmarried or established. I am wondering how determinations are made in regards to best suited home and such. I am desperate to get this little girl out of my mothers care and waway from the child molester. If I were to obtain custody, I would probably also change her name to avoid her father ever being ablet to make contact again. Would this be confusing to a 3 year old or suitable because of the situation?
