Your first step is to changed your mix fraction to an improper fraction. I'll show you an example of one you do the other
5 1/3 = 16/3
once you have both fractions as improper you must find a common denominator. In your case it is much easier because it will already have a common denominator which is 3. so then all you have to do is subtract the numerators.

Rewrite 5 1/3 as 4 4/3. Then subtract the fractions and subtract the whole numbers. It'll fall right into place.
