No solution unfortunately *hugs* sorry hon. But water based lubricants are best. And between sex, use a product called 'rePHresh'

Many products to buy, the best known is probably KY Jelly.

What has your doctor recommended?

Honestly, I think a doctor would be less helpful than the sales person at your local "novelties" shop or drugstore. There are a long list of lubricants, each having somewhat different uses some are better for different applications.

The reason I'd recommend a doctor is that sometimes there is something WRONG, and it's not just simple menopause.

You should rule out any other problems, absolutely.

But using a lubricant will definitely help you during intercourse.

Your average sales person at an adult or novelty store is far from an expert in most cases... they are usually someone who works there because they can't find a better job doing something else.

A doctor at least knows what works best from a medical perspective. And as was mentioned... talk to your doctor, they have probibly been asked this and have dealt with it hundreds if not thousands of times already. Would you trust a minimum wage cashier over a Doctor? ME? I'd pick the doctors advice every time.

Syn, yes I agree it is always best to make sure nothing is wrong, though this without other symptoms doesn't sounds like more than the typical decreased self lubrication issue that many women (especially post menopausal women) face.

smoothy, wow maybe that's true where you live, but here there are excellent stores that have very knowledgeable people who do... er... testing to determine what works best for which applications. One place in particular where the woman who owns the shop is highly educated, but chose a career she loved (owning her own biz).

Having been a nurse for many years, I will bet that most doctors haven't a clue what products are even available let alone which are better than others. KY is the most recommended and probably one of the least effective.

Another thing to consider is if you are using condoms, certain lubes are not meant for use with condoms as the oils in them break down the latex, read the labels.

adthern, it isn't a matter of whether not the doctors are ignorant of commercially available personal lubricants but the ignorance of the worker at the store of possible causes of said vaginal dryness. It is also hard to gauge the interest and knowledge of said sex-store workers. While it maybe true that in your experience that most clerks have sampled a good number of the various toys and products in the store, it isn't universal.

Take for example a person who goes into a health food store/ natural supplement store and asks some about why they are tired, constantly sleeping, dry skin, crampy, constipated, and depressed. They might see it as someone with seasonal effective disorder and should take some vitamins and get out more. A doctor might recognize that as hypothyroidism.

The common thread here is who is treating the problem and who is just fixing the symptoms.

It is very likely that this is just dryness caused by menopause. There is also a chance that it could be something else. It is that chance that it could be something else that we need to guard against or need to bring to their attention.

In short. See a doctor if everything is normal. Find some good lube.

I will admit that one reason I am not suggesting certain lubrications or asking a sale clerk is the misspelling of vaginal and menopause. The only two words that are misspelled in the title and post. It leads me to think that there may be more to this question.

If it is a translation program issue, then she may not have adult novelty stores available.

I figure that her personal doctor would have a better idea if she might be sensitive to some of the products. If she does have a reaction, I would prefer to think that she would not be embarrassed to go to her doctor and discuss the matter with him/her.

To the OP,

Go to the doctor or don't whatever you like. When the MD says its simple vaginal dryness, go to a novelty or drug store and try some of the various lubricants available. I suggest asking the people in the stores, they may have valuable help.
