On December 2009 I got with my partner Rebecca. She has a child named crystal and I love her so much. I would like to adopt her and I don't know if it would work in my benefit that the biological father is not on the birth certificate. I am only on benefits and I am only 18 so I can't afford much cost to hire is there anything I can do to adopt my potential step daughter for free?

Sorry, but there is no easy road in adopting a child, and it can't be done for free. If you are only eighteen, give more serious thought to what you want to do here. She still has a father even if he isn't on the birth certificate and he has to sign off his rights to the child before anything can be done.

A lawyer would be a good first step.

First, please don't use the Comments feature for follow-up, use the Answer options instead.

Second, ANY question on law needs to include your general locale as laws vary by area. The requirements for a step parent adoption do vary by area.

But Adoption is a very serious issue and needs to be done right. You absolutely need an attorney to make sure it is done right. So my recommendation is to start shopping around now for an attorney. Many will offer a free initial consultation so you can get a idea of what you need to do and what fees will be involved so you can start saving.
