Why bend? Pipe too long? Cut it to fit.

Yes! I assume this is 1/2" hard copper. Hard copper can be bent, but not too much) by heating the copper with a torch until it's soft enough to bend, CAREFUL! Don't bend it too far or bit will kink.
Now you can tell us what you're up to. Cheers, Tom

Hi chefball...

If the pipe is too rigid to insert a shutoff then as mentioned above you can bend the pipe out to the side no problem, or if needed you can use a SLIP COUPLING to help you fit all together.

Here, the slip coupling doesn't have a stop in the center of the fitting and the coupling can slide back and forth over the pipe so you can fit the shutoff to the pipe and then place the other pipe end into place and slide the slip coupling over the joint to solder and complete the job. If you use a slip coupling make sure that it is centered over the two pipes to be joined... ;)

Sharkbite push type fit fittings (sold at home depot or gatorbite fittings at lowes) also sell a slip coupling and shutoff... no soldering required.
