Assalamu alaikum,

It is obligatory for every man to pray five times a day in congregation if the mosque is very close to his home. But if the mosque is far away so that he cannot hear the adhaan given in a regular voice without amplification of the sound, he can pray at home.

It is obligatory to attend Friday prayers in the mosque whether he can hear the calls or not.

For detail see the following link:

Islam Question and Answer - He lives in Europe and the mosque is far from his house; can he pray at home? (http://islamqa.com/en/ref/89676)

If your question is if male muslims HAVE to go and pray their salaah at a masjid... my answer is no... though you must go and read Jumaah.. at the mosuqe.. it iis only sunnah to read salaah in a mosque

Hope this helps..

I think both of you are correct according to situation that someone lives in, and within this difference of opinion I see the mercy, of which The Messenger of Allaah -sAaws- spoke of concerning his ummah. Allaah knows best in which level each one is in their society, in their abuillity. The intention should be that if a muslim has to live in such a terrible condition that praying 5 solaah in jama`ah is hard for him, then hijra is what he has to do. That`s my situation. And my intention is to establish it there as obligatory upon myself, is Allaah allows me to succeed, and He is Most Kind.
