Hi! We live in a townhome that was built in 2004. We purchased it in 2009 and for the past 8 months I've smell a stinky smell that comes and goes. Our townhome is three stories and has a ceiling sprinkler system in it. The water that comes into the house from the "city" is in the bottom floor and is connected to the sprinkler sprinkler system. From time to time it smells stinky in the closest and in the bottom floor. I've looked for leaking and can't find a thing. Just a handful of times I smelled the fainty stinky smell in our laundry room (it's located on the middle floor). Then today for the first time, I smelled the stinky smell on the very top floor in the hot water heater closet that also has a vent in it. I can't see ANY problems - just a smell (but I was doing laundry).

I don't know who to call and what to even say except I have a stinky smell in the house that comes and goes randomly. Does anyone have any ideas? The smell is so random that one day it will be around and the next completely gone! Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've been afraid something is leaking, but I can't find a source. Then I thought mold... but nothing is wet that I can see. It smells kind of like musty sewage.
