When I run my garbage disposal, it ( the waste) comes up in my laundry tub. A real mess, I don't use the g/d anymore due to this problem. Also, laundry tub is used for my washing machine drain, my hose goes over the side of sink.Tub nearly overflows when I run washing machine, drain is very slow. Does anyone know where the clog is located and how to fix? Thanks for the help, Sue

Hi Sue...

Let me guess a bit here, OK? I'm guessing that you have a black iron pipe running down from the kitchen sink and it picks up the laundry tub just before it goes into the floor, right?

If so, this is cast iron pipe and this ican become a real messy situation to deal with, especially since a garbage disposal used to be used on this drain line.

Clearly, the drain line needs to be snaked to clear the drain of the issue. The build up of garbage/food over the years makes this a difficult task to take care of.

If this was me I would rent a medium size snake machine and I would purchase a drain king pressure bag (see images) and some leather gloves and goggles. I would snake the drain line and then I would use warm/hot water and the drain king tool to flush the line clean. I would snake the drain a number of times and again flush the line with the drain king in between.

If you don't open the drain line up real well by flushing as suggested you'll only manage to punch a hole in the blockage with the snake and it will quickly replug and be an issue, again.

If you don't think this is for you then call a reputable plumber in your area and have them clear/flush the line.

Finally, if this is a newer PVC or ABS plastic piping material then the job won't be nearly as tough as I presented... just need to snake the drain and follow up with a good flushing with hot water from the washing machine, OK?

Questions? Let me know...
