Hello. I have a 3 year old daughter and I have not received a single penny from him her entire life. Although that part does not bother me at all, my boyfriend has been talking about adopting her. I would like for this to happen. However, I know that I would need her father to sign away parental rights. BUT he has not been in contact for almost 6 months. What is the time frame in which "Child Adandonment" would come in to effect so I would not need him to sign away his rights?

Ultimately, I do not foresee a judge allowing a "boyfriend" to adopt a child. Most courts consider marriage to be a more solid commitment than just dating and they would prefer you be married(typically for at least a year) before allowing an adoption.

So much will determine on where you live.

In Georgia for example, abandoment is merely not paying your court ordered chld support and they can be put in jail, but rights are not taken away.

In Georgia, your rights can not be taken away for not paying support or for not seeing the child.

So do you have a court order for child support ? If no, he does not even really owe any yet.

Is there any court order for visits ?
