A cat keeps coming to my house every night I think it is very weird because she is pregnant and one night we left the back door open she brought her kittens in there and the next day we saw 2 beautiful kittens . She is now our cat . She is very sweet and kind . I CAN NOT Believe IT!! (stay cat)

Do you think there are only two kittens?

Kittens should stay with their mother a minimum of 8 weeks -- 12 is better. She will begin to kick them away when she wants to wean them (needle-sharp little teeth and all). Meanwhile, she will teach them all sorts of catlike things to do as they play with her and each other.

Thank you for taking in her and her babies! Oh, and please get her and her babies fixed when the time is right, so we cut down on the world's supply of homeless cats. (And please post photos!! )

not all mother cats will wean their kittens. My personal theory is that those mothers were never properly weaned, themselves, so don't know how to go about it.

if it gets to the point where it's clear mommy isn't going to wean the babies, you can help things along. Whenever you see the kittens nursing, pick them up and take them to the food and water dishes, and make mommy stand up.

make sure you have food and water in kitten-sized dishes starting when the kittens are about 4 weeks. They'll still be nursing, but they need to start trying to eat solid food, too, at about that point. They'll start nursing less, once they start really eating solid food, and mommy's milk can start to dry up.

oh, and I second the request for pictures ^_^
