The remote on this TV suddenly stopped working. Batteries are fine. New Sony remote would be $83 + shipping! Universal remote I tried doesn't work on this TV, but may be too old for this model. TV is hooked up to an antenna only--no cable or other electronics. Someone mentioned a possible problem with the remote sensor in the TV. Any thoughts on this? Where can I find a replacement part?

It is indeed possible that it is a bad remote sensor. I will tell you that the particular model you have should use the same codes that Sony has been using for many years. Try picking up a Sony universal remote from a store with a return policy that doesn't care (like Best Buy). And it should work right out of the packaging. If not, then it's probably the remote sensor.

Thank you for the helpful info. If the problem is the sensor, do you know where I can buy a new one and what is entailed in installing it?

Maybe summing this up will help someone else. The remote worked on another Sony and it did turn out to be a faulty remote sensor. Sony doesn't make it's parts available to anyone but service techs. It was an expensive repair.
