In 2008 I donated plasma, on 2nd visit, I was told that I was unable to donate because I tested positive for HIV, and that I have been placed on the National Donor Deferral Registry (NDDR) which is also the AIDS Registry. Hearing all this was a very hard, hard blow. Do you know what hearing those words said to you mean, or how it made me feel? After leaving the plasma center, with this piece of paper that they gave me, so unpersonal, with my whole life on it! I went straight to the Virginia Beach Health Department, explained best as I could, what had just happen. Mr. Williams started my testing, they gave me a on the spot test, which came back negative, and we started the more detailed test which took 2 week to get and answer from, which also came back negative, and every test since. I went back to the center that I 1st visited, and show them all the tests. At that time I was told that once on the Registry, you can never get off. I was then given a telephone number to the Head Quarters of the National Donors. I conversated with Jennifer in Regulatory over the phone serveral times. I received a call from her in maybe like between September or October which she stated that she was able to take me off the list and that it had been taken care of. Right after that I had 2 strokes and had to have surgery on my heart, and is now trying to rebuild my life from that. A few days ago I talked with someone about getting me some life Insurance, and was asked did I know that I was on the Registry. Even though I was able to explain and show all my paper work, I was still refused due to the National Registry. I am seeking help with this matter and don't know who to turn to. I know something can be done about this, but it seems everyone is afraid to touch a matter like this, or you have to pay someone just to tell you, they are unable to handle this kind of a case. I do know I need someone who can handles HIPPA.

Your personal contact has been deleted, for your protection from the possible unlimited crooks that may try and con you.

Next after that, this has nothing to do with HIPPA since they did not give out any personal health data to someone they were not suppose to give it to.

Next 2 strokes and heart surgary, ( sorry) but you will not get any life insurance just for that, no registry will make a difference one way or another.

In regards to Fr Chuck the statement that having 2 strokes and heart surgery will disqualify you for life insurance is not true. I use to work for a life and health insurance company and my husband has worked for 2 life insurance companies. I will say this most companies will not give you life insurance during a grace period but once that grace period is over and you have had no further issues you are eligible again. For an example the place I worked it was a 3 year grace period.
As far as legal help I do not know what to suggest other than contacting them again or seeking an attorney. If anything I would be contacting an attorney for the grief the plasma center has put you through. I can't image all the stress that would have been brought on me if I was told something like that. Then to frequently be put through testing that was not needed.
The best of luck to you. I hope everything works out.
