We run a Citrix environment at 3 of our 4 locations. Users login to their Citrix session every morning to work.

As of late, Outlook for all sessions are hogging the Servers CPU. Granted we have never had this many running on one server (before it was balanced between 2) but there is still not that many running on it, about 20-25 at a given time.

The Citrix Server is running virtually via Hyper-V.

Here are the specs of both the physical server and the virtual server.

Virtual Server (Citrix):
Intel Xeon Processor E5507 2.2GHZ
4GB RAM
250GB HDD

Physical Server (Server 2008 R2)
IBM System x3650 M3
Intel Xeon e5507 Processor
Dual Quad Cores 2.27/2.27
10gb RAM
64-bit 2K8 R2 STANDARD

If you have nay ideas or need more info let me know!

Silly really but have you upped the CPU count on the citrix server, looks like you have the resource available.
I know TS on wondoze can be a resource hog at times.
OK I use VMware, but similar ideas apply.

You really think it would need more than dual core processors on the Citrix Servers?

I just noticed when I wrote the specs for the Virtual Server I didn't mention that it is utilizing all of the physical server resources. It is showing as having 2 CPUs as well.

Maybe be 2 cpus virtual, but you have EIGHT available.
Remember virt sees cores as distinct CPUs.

I did have an issue with my lotus notes server and an SQL server that were both sluggish despite having vast resources, I found cutting them WAAAAAAAY back to 1 cpu and 1 Gb RAM actually improved the efficiency of the boxes no end.

Weird but true.

Sometimes virt flies in the face of what you'd expect physically.

In Hyper-V when you're running a Windows Server 2003 32-bit machine you can't allocate but 2 CPU's to the virtual server.

RIght now there are two running. Even though the physical Server has 8 I can only give the virtual server 2 because of it's OS restrictions.

Good Ol' Microsoft. If I want to allocate half of my resources to a virtual machine I should be able to :(

Realized that the issue is less with Outlook and more with Flash 10.1 and IE 8. haha got to love Adobe.
