I am on L2 Visa and applied for an EAD (Form No. I-765). Is is possible for me to apply for a green card directly from an L2 visa or I need to take the H-1 route??

Do you also work for the same company that your L-1 spouse works for? In other words, do you also qualify for the L-1A or L-1B as a transferee?

No I don't. I came here as her dependent on L-2 visa. On arriving here I applied for an EAD. I am still waiting for it. After I get my EAD and take up a job here, maybe with some different employer, could I get my employer to sponsor for my green card

Yes, you can have your new employer petition for you. Please note that if your spouse is an L-1A, the immigrant petition process as an EB-1(3) is generally much faster and easier.

For you, depending on your education and work experience, it would usually require labor certification under the EB-3 preference category. For most countries the priority date is at January 2005 as noted in the November DOS visa bulletin.

I hope this was helpful, please confirm this information with an immigration attorney. Good luck.
