View Full Version : What would cause my vehicle to idle lower?

I have a 2001 dodge durango and I could have sworn it used to idle around 1000 rpm but now it idles around 500 rpm and sounds rough when it idles and kind of fluctuates between 500-600 rpm. Also, it drives fine except when I accelerate a lot or I'm going up a hill it kind of kicks a bit. Any ideas of what this could be. I've been doing a lot of work to my car lately and had it all good then this started happening.

Are you only using Champion spark plugs? Idle rpm is likely around 750.

I believe I just put bosch spark plugs in a few weeks ago.

My experience with Dodge trucks has been to only use the same Champion spark plugs that originally came in the truck. MAJOR performance problems with other plugs. I've seen other plugs break down within 2 weeks and the truck would no longer start.

Ok, so champion is the original brand? I will try replacing them with Champion and see if it helps. Just to jump ahead here, if that doesn't help what could it be?
