The pipe from my sight glass on gas boiler was rotted and leaking, I removed pipe and replaced it with brass, it works . Just wondering about electrolysis.

The original fitting was cast iron. Brass is OK with those species. Aluminum and brass are bad. In old houses, the piping was usually iron and kitchen and bath fixtures were brass.

There's always the possibility of electrolysis when you comingle different pipe naterials. However, I wouldn't worry too much about yout sight glass supply. Good luck, Tom

Steam boiler... right? If so, replacing that glass tube with brass tubing isn't so great an idea as it will leave you guessing when your boiler will run out of water...

If you have an updated or a regularly maintained older low water cutoff (L.W.C.O.) then it may not be a major issue, but if that L.W.C.O. hasn't been maintained on a regular basis then the boiler could end up running out of water and it could then "dry-fire" and that will definitely crack the boiler... a very bad thing indeed!

I would suggest that you go to a local plumbing supply store and buy a new gauge glass tube... if you bring the old glass tube they can probably cut the new tube to the proper length for you, too. Pick up some new brass nuts, brass washers and rubber/neoprene washers while you're there for best overall result!
