I remember the main character was a young women who was mugged on her way home from the store. I remember her having brown paper grocery bags. She reported it to police and then at some point she began weightlifting to be stronger and able to defend herself. She goes all the way and wins medals in weightlifting and I seem to remember her dating the police officer who she originally filed her report of a mugging with.
