Its been 13 months since burglary detectives came into my home without warrant and took 2 laptops 1 computer etc. And have not charged anyone, for a crime to my knowledge . How long can they keep property before having to return it.

They can "investigate" the crime (and keep the evidence) as long as the statute of limitations run. If it was a FELONY burglary, they probably have three years to "investigate". If it was a misdemeanor, it would be only be a year. Of course, the cops might NOT be "investigating" any more, and they might give the stuff back if you called them... But, nahhhh... They're pricks...
