I am 28 and I had a tubal ligation about three and a half years ago. I am divorced now but involved with someone else. I wanted to know how successful a reverse tubal ligation could be and if its something that is generally covered by insurance. In a few years my fiancée and I are thinking of having a child together and I'm trying to figure out if its possible to get pregnant with a reverse tubal ligation. Thanks everyone.

I am sorry to say that while reversals do sometimes work, they are never guaranteed. The incidence is rather low in pregnancy after a reversal.

I personally do not know of any insurance that will cover the procedure since it is considered a choice, not a medical necessity.

I am VERY surprised that a doctor would have done a tubal on someone as young as you were. How many children did you have prior to the surgery, if you don't mind me asking.

Hi J_9, thanks for the advice. To answer your question I had two children before my tubal ligation. My youngest daughter was a year and a half when I had the surgery. Both of my pregnancies were very hard. With my first daughter I developed a DVT in my leg and went on Heparin for the rest of my pregnancy. With my second daughter I continued with blood thinning injections, for fear of another clot, had no problems whatsoever until my water broke at 30 weeks which she was born 5 days later. Due to an incompetent cervix, I had a leep done a year prior to becoming pregnant with her.
The doctors didn't advise me to "not" have another but my risk of having another premie would have been about 75% chance. And I would have been put on bed rest starting at 4 months. So being young I was really scared that it could happen again, I elected to have it and my doctors didn't talk me out of it. Actually one of them was pleased with my decision.
But I do understand what you mean, I at the time was a bit surprised that they didn't try talking me out of it. Now that I'm older and would love to have another one with my fiancée I'm more able to take the percautions that come along with it.. ie. Bed rest and such.
