As salaam alaikum...
We have purchased a new apartment and plan to move in very soon. The elders at home suggest we organise quran qani at home before we move in. Also heard from few of our friends that quran qani is shirk as most of the people ask the children or hafiz from the madrasas to recite the entire quran on that particular day after which a hadiya is given. Some times the family, friends and relatives gather and recite the quran and complete it within a day. Is this permissible?
Please explain this in a much broader sense.
Allah Hafiz...

Walaikum salam,

The ritual that you have described is a bid-ah, that is , an innovation. So you must stay away from this practice.

As Salam Alaikum,

Be weary of Tradition, Culture, Bidah, and Folklore.

The intention MUST be good, but that doesn't ensure "good" will. Then again, how could reading/ reciting the Qur'an be a bad thing?

My suggestion... Read the whole Qur'an as a family, everyday in the house, within 30 days and reflect on the mercy of your Creator.
