I was charged with possession of marijuana under 20 grams and paraphernalia. I already went to the arrainment and plead not guilty. He asked if wanted my own attorney or public defender. I was going to try and get my own but it didn't work out. I tried to get a public defender but it was too late. Now my court date is scheduled for Oct. 12, two hours earlier than people with public defenders and I have none at all. Will I be able to go and plead not guilty again, then get a public defender?

If you insist on pleading not guilty, then I suggest you get your own lawyer. They charged you with possession, so obviously found it on your person, if so, why are you pleading not guilty ? It would probably be in your best interest to please guilty of this offence.

I plead not guilty because this is my first time being in any kind of trouble. I just wasn't sure about anything so I wanted some more time and to speak to someone who knew what was going on.

Yes. Don't let them intimidate you. You are entitled to a lawyer if you can't afford one on your own.

PS> In my view, ANY cop, or ANY prosecutor, or ANY judge that prosecutes a person for LESS than an ounce of marijuana, IS the criminal!! Not the other way around.

You can't "plead" again but you can ask for the case to be continued till you can arrange a public defender.
