I have several western red cedar slabs with which I wish to make into outdoor tables. I would like to know what would be the best finish/cover to put on it. I would also like to know if I could not treat the underside of it so that I can get the cedar smell. Would that be a problem?

Cedar is either the aromatic kind or it isn't, so there's nothing you can put on it. I would put any clear sealer for outdoors. Our cedar seems to get treated every 20 years or so and is fine, not that I suggest that long.
