If this is for you the prior Domestic Protective Order you have written about will preclude you from being hired.

There is no requirement in the US that a police office have more than a GED or high school degree. Some individual departments may have their own higher standards.
Also the "cop" school is the POST training and in most places will be a 3 or 4 month school and those are furnished by the department after you are hired by them. In some areas like Georgia where I am at, you can pay for your own academy and almost all are hired when they complete by some department.
For the better departments normally you will need a four year degree ( college degree) normally it does not matter in what.
Also a tour of duty in the military is often seen as a great way to get considered.
As noted, if you do have a conviction for a domestic violence crime, then forget about ever being a police officer
