1/3 is the same as 2/6, and adding to 3/6(or 1/2)= 5/6.

Indeed your answer is correct.

Denominators must be made the same,

So both numbers on the bottom, need to be made the same.

Whatever you do to the bottom of a fraction. i.e multiply. You do to the top of the fraction
