Hi.
I live in a 46 year old concrete, tile floored, wood roofed home in Key Largo Florida. The ground is crushed coral rock, there is no soil in Key Largo--the island is the remains of an ancient coral reef.
Recently the county switched over to sewers from septic tanks. Injection type sewer system with vacuum pumps.
Since then it stinks in this house from sewer gas after a rainstorm--has happened twice so far. (I am worried about the health of my parrot too). It did not do this before the switch over to sewers.
All the pea traps are functional and the vents that are through the roof are working.

The sewer smell is smelled outside also and in some areas stronger than other areas.
The sewers are a vacuum pump kind. Four houses are connected to a 250 gallon underground tank and when that fills the vacuum is activated and the stuff is whisked away. The other 3 houses are built on stilts. Our home is ground level. The 250 gallon holding tank is directly in front of our house.
It rained last night and 2am I awoke with a gagging reflex because of the smell.
Did a web search and found you.

Were all lines to the old septic tank system capped or sealed? In other words, could odors becoming from septic tank?
