I have a vietnamese girlfriend that I would like to get married to but I am getting other than honorable discharge from the navy. When I go back to the states will I still be able to bring her from vietnam to the states after we get married?

It doesn't matter what your Discharge status was... the fact is just because you marry her doesn't mean she can or will get a green card. It can take years to get it and being here illegally during the interim period migh get the application rejected.

Get her legal BEFORE you get the knot tied or open yourself up for a LOT of heartache. Don't just run and get married assuming just because she is your wife they have to give it to her right away.

Even WITH political connections it took over two years for my wife to get one pre-9/11. And its more difficult now than it was then. Thank the Internet for giving you a warning of what NOT to assume. I didn't have that benefit 20 years ago.

A question I have is...

Have you met her in person or over the internet? If over the internet, you do realize there are many scams like this going on, right?

Type of discharge generally not an issue for the petitioner. It depends on the underlying reason for the OTH discharge, if it due to a criminal arrest, charge or conviction then you will want to consult with an experienced immigration attorney to confirm.
