Do you talk with him or has it been more just eye contact and smiles? Are you already friends or just see each other in passing?

Talk to him. If you have classes together, you can use that as a starting point. Ask what he thinks about a class or homework assignment. If you just see him in passing, smile and say hi when you pass by. When you get a bit more comfortable, ask about what class(es) he is in.

Depending on what sort of school you go to, maybe strike up a conversation about an upcoming football game or something. If you know what he is in to, bring that topic up.

The point is, start with small conversations and see where it goes. You will know soon enough if he likes you as you think he might!

Show interest without looking desperate, like a simple compliment, or a friendly date to a movie if you think he is interested

Definitely don't hang on his every word or follow him around, as that would make you appear to be a desperate pest.

You need to just talk to him and get to know him pretty well as a friend, then see if anything else develops on its own.
