After my 2nd miscarriage the doctors said they wanted to check one of my hormone levels to ensure that it is high enough to sustain a viable pregnancy. What happens if my levels are too low? Will I be unable to have more children?

The most likely hormone they will check is progesterone which helps to sustain a pregnancy once it is underway. Too low of levels and either pregnancy will not occur or will end very early. Depending on the cause for the low levels, it can often be one of the more common reasons for repeated miscarriages and one of the more easily treated.

Often just having a progesterone supplement for several weeks, until the placenta takes over production, is all that is necessary. It is not a guarantee that levels won't drop and certainly if it is determined that your levels are low, you will be monitored closely, but it often results in a normal pregnancy without incident.

If well monitored, it won't prevent you from having more children at all.
