My friend is 9 weeks pregnant and can't seem to keep anything down. She's not a big salad eater but that is the only thing she can keep down. She has tried chicken fish spaghetti and nothing seems to stay down. Has anyone had this problem and what can she eat that will be OK for her?

She could go on a BRAT diet for a day or 2 and see how that works for her. Also she needs to keep taking her prenatal vitamins. She can try things like chicken boulion and see if that settles her stomach.

BRAT = Bananna's Rice and Toast.

If it lasts any longer then she needs to talk to her doctor.

It is pretty common, especially in early pregnancy, but often subsides around 12 weeks. Frequent suggestions that work for many women are increasing her vitamin b6, ginger (ginger ale with real ginger in it is an easy one to use), dry toast or crackers before she gets out of bed, fresh air, seasickness wrist bands, and small frequent amounts of what she can eat and drink throughout the day.

As califdad said, continue with the prenatal vitamins but if they don't sit well, which sometimes happens, she can go with a good multivitamin or even a children's vitamin, such as flintstone complete, for now . Also, taking them at night shortly before bedtime helps some women.

She can try small slices of turkey in her salad, or small amounts of yogurt for the protein. Avoid spicy, fried, or fatty foods for awhile.
