How do I answer a summons for a civil case in Wisconsin. The creditor is a credit card company and they served me by leaving an envelope on my porch but there was no Answer form provided for me to send to the court. I can not afford a lawyer as I just got a job after being unemployed for a year. The last paragraph says they are demanding a judgment against me for the principal plus interest at 11.6% from January 2010 to date of the service of the complaint plus continued interest on the outstanding principal balance at the account rate until the judgment and Plaintiff's costs, disbursements, and fees pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 814.04.

Send a letter to the court indicating your intent to defend this claim. Send a copy of the letter to the plaintiff requesting verification of the debt.

You can state that if they can prove the debt and their right to collect it, you may be willing to discuss a settlement.

There are loads of threads here dealing with a similar situation. I suggest browsing around to get an education.
