Wa `aleikumus-Salaam.
Allaahu `alam. If you really honestly can say it`s possible to do without thinking anything bad, then maybe if you`re young and not married yet then it can help you protect yourself (MAYBE!), because the sperm production itself and the hormones are giving difficulties to men. And if you have to choose one of two evils, then choose the lesser one - so I mean it`s better than zina. But it`s best if you make sabr, because the more you satisfy yourself by other than what Allaah is pleased with, the more your heart becomes attached to it, and the more you will be forgetfull of Him, and laa ilaaha illa Allaah becomes weak in your heart, becomes the love of desires takes room from the love that should be for Allaah - may Allaah protect. I`m not saying it`s shirk, although it may even lead to shirk - there are levels of attachement and levels of love. Allaah should always be more beloved to you than everything other than Him. What about if the call to prayer comes while we are determined to do something like that, and it has taken over our hearts, so we will turn away from answering the caller to our Lord?
We should remind yourselves to fear Allaah, because the Messenger of Allaah -sAaws- has said that a person will be resurrected in the state in which he died. So does any muslim want to be resurrected on The Day of Judgement doing that? May Allaah forgive us, have mercy upon us, guide us and save us, aamiin. And we should think about Surat At-Takaathur. In it Allaah is not even only speaking about Haraam. He is speaking about Halaal things that distract us in dunja, and warning us we will see The JaHiim, and then we will surely have certainty of faith, and WE WILL BE ASKED ABOUT NA`IIM (all of the blessings we were given). How did we use this life and these hands and hearts and eyes, and air we breath and the food we eat, when Allaah created us to worship Him, and we didn`t deserve all this Kindness, but He is Merciful to us.
According to Sunnah is that rather if you cannot marry, you should fast. And in every difficulty Allaah advised to make sabr and salaat. Allaah is with the saabiriin.
The sperm creates pressure, but by the help of Allaah you can overcome it, and it`s a test, like everything else in this cursed dunja. Say this masnuun du`aa: "Allaahumma innii a`uuthu Bika min sharri sam`ii, wa min sharri basorii, wa min sharri lisaanii, wa min sharri qalbii, wa min sharri manjii" (Oh Allaah, I seek refuge in you from the evil of my hearing, the evil of my seeing, the evil of my tongue, the evil of my heart, and the evil of my sperm." This is a du`a of Nabii -sAaws- in a soHiiH Hadiith, and he -sAaws- also said that all dunja and everything in it is cursed except for the rememberance of Allaah and that, which is on it`s side (helps in it and is related to it), and `aalim, and a student of knowledge.
I want to remind that if you are married and you enjoy sex with your wife, it is sodaqah, so you will be rewarded for it. If you on the other hand make yourself weak fysically and mentally by wasting the nutrition Allaah gives you that all the time more sperm has to be produced only to be thrown away for no other reason than to please yourself, then surely you will have Hisaab for it. May Allaah allow us to die as shuhadaa, so we would avoid the horrors of The Last Day, and could meet Him without sin. Aamiin.
SubHaanak Allaahumma wa biHamdik ash-hadu an laa ilaaha illaa Anta wa astaqhfiruka wa atuubu Ilek.

You asking this question is a big step to a solution for it, and I`m sure it benefits others as well who have the same problem they are struggling with. Dear brother, don`t loose hope, and never become angry for the qadr, because all our deeds are written too. Just we can beg Allaah His forgiveness and tawfiiq, because He Alone has all Power, and He created man weak. Remember what Jusuf -`aleihis-Salaam- said. Read Surat Yusuf in shaa Allaah: "Inna an-nafsa la-ammaaratun bi as-suu-i illaa maa raHima Rabbii" (Verily the nafs is ordering evil, except for what my Lord has given mercy). And Allaah promised those who strive and stuggle in His Deen that He will guide them, and He is with them, because they constantly worship Him as if they see Him, because they`re aware that He`s seeing them.

Astaqhfirullaah: STRUGGLE, not `stuggle`.
You see it cannot be avoided that we make mistakes, because we are children of Adam -`aleihis-Salaam- And Nabii -sAaws- said "Kullu banii Aadama khattaa-uuna wa khairul-khattaa-uuna at-tawwaabuun", or the like of it is what he said -sAaws. (All children of Adam are making mistakes, and the best of those who make mistakes are those who repent) Wa Billaahi At-Tawfiiq, Wa Allaahu a`lam wa a`laa wa akbar, wa Lillaah AlHamdu, wa solla Allaahu `alaa Habiibinaa Al-Mustafaa. Wa Salaam.
