Hello,

I got my NJ license a month back. I got three tickets - Careless Driving, Leaving Scene of accident and Failure to report accident. There was no personal injury but property damage did happen.

I stopped at yellow signal and vehicle behind me couldn't stop and it hit my vehicle. I was shocked and not knowing what to do; I drove away. Police came spotting me and it seems they got the evidence stating I stopped at green signal and left the spot. I know the mistake on my end was leaving the scene of accident but that moment I was shocked and left.

I have to appear in court. Can somebody help me please.

What should I do ? What would be the amount of fine? Will there be any imprisonment? I am very worried.

Please help me.

No there will be no imprisonment. The amount of the fine should be on the tickets. Basically you show up for the hearing, plead inexperience and panic and hope they reduce the charges. There is a good chance they will.

You should get a good criminal Attorney - your drivers license is at stake here.

I don't see imprisonment - I DO see fines.

Yes, given you have had your license only a short time, it is possible it could be suspended.

Is "Leaving the scene of accident" and "Failure to report accident" a criminal offense ?

Leaving is, yes, failure to report (to the Police) is, yes.

Can a good criminal attorney help me to overcome these criminal offenses?

Overcome? Probably not. Get the best outcome? You bet!
