My uncle is about 80 years old he has some strange behaviour and nobody can figure out what is wrong. He repeats sentences over and over, he will go into detail how he went to the washroom, or did other daily things. He keeps saying stuff like " do you want me to tell you how i went to the washroom" he goes into detail of the color of something like he says " the brown table brown table brown table" or if he washed dishes he will start talking then seem to get stuck like his brain is skipping "i wiped and i wiped and i wiped"etc. He also thinks he will choke if he eats says he can't shave or eat but he can he just panics... he complains he feels weak and dizzy all the time... he thinks his son is trying to make him drink other peoples beverages and will hit the drink away etc. I am concerned I have never seen this happen to somebody before and I am hoping to find out what might be causing this to happen. Thanks

Dementia or alzheimers would explain this.

Also he is on a lot of different pills would it be the pills working against each other or something? He is normal sometimes then completely seems really strange...

Yes the doctor knows 5 yrs ago they admitted him into a mental hospital where he received shock treatments :( but that didn't help they can't seem to figure out what it is... one specialist said your brain shrinks with age, what ever that means.

My mom is 86 and is doing fine, so this has nothing to do with person's brain shrinking with age.

Do you know about all the medicine he is taking? Which pills and for what and at what dose and at what time of the day? Write that all down, and also write down his behavior and any strange things he does, put them in a chart form or list, and take it to a pharmacy to have them check for interactions and side effects.

The human brain does indeed shrink with age beginning in early adulthood and becomes particularly marked after age 60. That does not necessarily equate to loss of cognitive function. The hippocampus, a region of the brain responsible for memory formation is particularly vulnerable to this shrinkage after age 60 as is the cerebellum which is responsible for balance.

With Alzheimer Disease the shrinkage can double. Hypertension can also accelerate shrinkage.

Also, some drugs and/or combinations of drugs can have unpredictable results in any age group but particularly when there is an existing vulnerability.

Any of these factors could be contributing to his condition.

Do you know the reason for electro convulsive (shock) treatment at 75?
