Did any of you get to watch the rally at the Lincoln Memorial today?

The whole place was covered in people! I missed all but most of the last speech (Glenn Beck). It had the flavor of both a political rally and a revival.

I plan to catch the rebroadcast Monday during prime time on CSPAN.

What are your thoughts?

I didn't get a chance to see it. And it might be because I think the man is a nutjob myself. Recently the radio station near me put him in the line up and I gave him a chance and listened not just once but several times. That's all it took for me to change the channel.

galveston, I, like califdadof3, think of Beck as a nutjob. I missed it on purpose.

Beck's television is better than his radio, but he's primarily an author.

His conclusions I find a bit too "put it in God's hands," but he claims to be a 12 step alumnus and quite often those alumni are a little quick to cede self-discipline since they didn't manage it previously.

His research skills/staff, however, do seem to be top of the line, as does his reading of his audience.

Beck is a sell-out entertainer - he goes where the money is. He's very much lacking in ethics.

Palin's address to the crowd is good. It is in 3 or 4 parts on You tube. After that the day was too nice here in NY to hang out inside .

I will tag the Beck address for another day but he is not high on my list of pitch men.If it got to be like a revival was Beck more Huey Long or Elmer Gantry ?I'm betting Gantry as Beck appears to be quite the fictional construct.

What I really want to hear is what Alveda King had to say. If someone can link that I'd appreciate it.

When I tried to look things up on YouTube I noticed a lot of virus sites out there. So anyone looking please be careful my friends. The idiots are at it again.

I wanted to see it but I couldn't find it anywhere on my TV. I can tell, when you post about him, that you really admire him. I envy that. The last person who could move me like that was JFK. I thought Obama could, but he's a bust.

I'm happy for you. You're a good man. But, Beck is bonkers. Besides, no matter what he says, HIS side WASN'T the side that fought for civil rights... It just WASN'T.

I missed the first part, so hope that cspan will rebroadcast it, as I heard, Mon. evening. I would really like to hear what Palin had to say, and also Alveda King.

What so impressed me about the part I did see was that people from so many different denominations and those with no church connections could come together to promote the idea of honor. I find that so refreshing.

So, it turned out to be an old fashioned prayer meeting... I can get behind that...

But, did you notice the virulently anti-Catholic Rev. John Hagee on the stage? I don't know what kind of "honor" HE'S restoring... Now, I'm not Catholic so his slurs don't mean much to me, but Hagee has called Catholicism "the great whore," and suggested Hitler was Catholic and the pope was responsible for the Holocaust.

Doesn't sound real honorable to me. Even John McCain had to renounce Hagee's endorsement after his anti-Catholic bile was widely publicized. So why was he at Beck's rally?

Weren't you the guy talking about "the exconvict working beside you?" Aren't you an ex-convict? So in other words, we're supposed overlook the crimes committed by others and welcome them back to society, but a pastor (whose remarks were exaggerated) apologizes and he must still be ostracized forever.

I can be a pretty big jerk myself - and take your potshots here - and then I kick myself far more than you guys can kick me around. That puts me in some pretty deep sh*t if others won't give me another chance. So, the way I see it is your standards don't apply to everyone. Which side do I fall on, the Hagee side or the ex-convict side?

Beck's message is that we need to restore America's honor and return to the valeus that made this nation great.

That message resonates with a LOT of Americans.

I doubt that you or I could find a gathering of more than a handful of people in which we could not find someone that we didn't approve of.

Yes, gal, it does... I'm all for forgiving people and welcoming them back into society... But, that's a far cry different than putting them up on the stage with you. One is forgiving. The other is an endorsement.

When I was in prison, I met a guy who killed his baby daughter with a shoe. I was prepared to hate him. But I didn't. I actually grew to like and forgive him. But, I'd NEVER put him on a stage with me. If I did, I would think that it would be a statement about ME, and MY values, and what I represent.

Hagee wasn't the only nefarious one up on stage. There was also the rabbi from Mercer Island, who was involved in helping Jack Abramoff rip off his Indian clients... I don't think I'd have THAT GUY on stage with me either...

You don't think WHO he picks to BE ON STAGE with him matters?? You don't think it represents something about how Beck thinks? If those things DON'T matter, why would you think Obama palled around with terrorists, simply because he knew one?? Doesn't forgiveness apply there?

Again, Beck holds no public office and wields no government power.

Obama does, and that makes a serious difference.
