Translate the problem into a pair of linear equations in two variables. Solve the equations using either elimination or substitution. State your answer for both variables.

1. The sum of two numbers is 60. The second number is three times as large as the first number. What are the numbers?

2. Ron and Kathy are ticket sellers for their class play. Ron sells student tickets for $2.00 each, and Kathy sells Adult tickets for $4.50 each. If their total revenue for 365 tickets is $1175.50, then how many tickets did Ron sell?

#1 is easy. What equations do you get. Assign a variable to #1 and assign a variable to #2 number. Use the words to form two equations. What do you get as the two equations?
