A collection agency has a lien on my Washington state drivers license. If I file bankruptcy on the account, will the lien go away?

Why do they have a lien on your drivers license, chukkyd? There is no money involved in a drivers license.

I've never heard of such a thing. Why do you think they have this?

A lien is an encumbrance on real property that prohibits the sale or transfer of that property until the lien is satisfied. You can't sell or transfer a driver's license. So I think you are confused or being confused by something you are being told.

Ask them for proof that they have the ability to do that. Better yet, call the DMV and ask this.

If they do not have a lien on it, call the collection agency and inform them that they have violated the FDCPA.

I have never heard of a lien being put on a drivers license. Who told you that? That just does not make sense because you can't sell a drivers license. Ask to see it writing where they have the right to do this. I bet they can't.

I have heard all the scare tactics from collection agencies and this one really does take the cake. This would mean to someone, who actually believes it, that their livelihood will be taken away along with everything else.
