Can a collection agency from Canada come after me / take legal action in the United States?

I'm Canadian and living in the United States for the past 12 years. Legally of course as a student/ employee with green card.

I have paid my Canadian student loans for more than the last 10 years and have fallen on some hard times economically the last couple years and lost/ foreclosed on my house after my wife was laid off. In short I stopped paying my loans because I had other more necessary things to pay for. I have collections calling all the time and I was wondering if Collections agencies from Canada can pursue people out of Canada and if so, how soon?

Yes, a Canadian company can get a Judgment against someone in the US and then proceed to collect.

How soon? I don't know what you mean? You can be sued pretty much the day you default.
