Hello, I have no clue about dryers expect how to dry clothes. Mine is a GE Profile that is about 6 years old. About a month ago it started making this awful squeaking noise whenever I use it. Is there a belt or something that I can replace that will make it quit? Or is it better to get a new one? I know sometimes on older appliances the repair cost is more than buying a new. Thank you! :)

If you positively can't stand the squeek then have the belt replaced. It's not a very expensive part - it's the labor to replace it that will run you. This is far less expensive than buying another dryer. Call a few appliance repair shops and ask them the cost. It takes less than one hour start to finish to change the belt.

If the dryer works OK, then I'd suggest that you just grin and bear it as the squeek WILL go away on it's own. My GE dryer started squeeking and then about one month later doing loads as usual the squeek went away and hasn't come back in 3 years. I'd suggest you wait the squeek out versus buy a new dryer or have it changed out. If the noise is THAT unbearable then fix it. If not, just shut a door, etc. or position yourself at the other end of the house while it dries.

Thank you twinkiedooter. I'm glad this doesn't mean a new dryer. If the squeak is going to go away, I think I will try to wait it out. Thanks again I really appreciate :)

Kathiep, squeak could be from bearing or front slides, both a cheap easy repair. Good luck
