I believe my water broke two days ago. They did the amniotic fluid test swab and it came back negative, but I am sure it still has been slightly torn. I still slightly leak and it is definitely not urine. The doctor said there was fluid in there, but it is not my regular discharge. My discharge used to be normal, then it got very gooey for a while, and now it is just fluid with little bits of tissue in it. My baby has dropped early and I have a softened cervix, as of two days ago I was still closed not sure if it has changed. Please help I would like to know what this could be.

It may just be a change in discharge that happens for many women towards the end of pregnancy. It often becomes more fluid and thinner. Some women feel as though they are wet most of the time.
There is the possibility that you had a small tear and it has resealed.

All you can really do is check back with your doctor to have them check again to give you some peace of mind.

Certainly let them know right away if you have any other changes... more pronounced, or continual leaking, cramping or back ache that comes and goes for example.

If you were my patient calling me on the phone while I was here at work, this is what I would tell you.

"There is no way we can advise you over the phone as this can be caused by several factors. I suggest you come on in to the hospital to be evaluated further."

If indeed your water did break 2 days ago, it is imperative that you deliver this baby as soon as possible. Or, at 30 weeks, if your water did break, an amnioinfusion is advisable.

Please contact your doctor or L&D as soon as possible.

I am having slight continual leaking, with slight cramping in my abdomen, and constant pain in lower back. When I went in they did a pH swab, but was negative. Could the test be wrong? I am just worried for my baby girl's sake. Thank you.

Yes, the tests can produce a false negative or a false positive for several reasons.

I don't know if your hospital does a ferning test, but if they do it is the most reliable.

If you are continuously changing panties say every 15 minutes to 1/2 hour, you need to be checked again. If you are wearing a pad, take it with you. This can be tested as well.
