View Full Version : Bathroom sink drain leaks

I installed a new bathroom faucet and drain that came with the faucet. I have done this before on several occasions with no leaks but this time am having difficulty. The faucet is a Moen and the leak appears to be coming from the drain in the sink and is leaking from around the large rubber gasket that goes against the bottom of the sink and is held there by a large plastic nut, then the pop up rod section of pipe attaches below this. I did use plumbers putty before installing the drain in the sink, however it seems that maybe the seal is broken when I try to tighten the tail pice on to that because it moves the whole thing in the sink. Am I supposed to just tightem that big washer that compresses the rubber gasket by hand or do I use large channel locks to tighten it. It seems to me that maybe I either am not using enough plumbers putty or the seal is getting broken when I tighten the tail piece. Would silicone be better than plumbers puttty? Thanks
