My ex-boyfriend contacted me recently saying he just bought a house and wants to know if I'm going to pay him back any of the money he lent me. The only money he ever gave me was $1600 to pay a car off. I didn't want to money but he insisted, and we never agreed that it was a loan or that I was expected to repay him. It was a gift to help me out. We were not actually dating at the time, and I suspected he was hoping to guilt me into dating him again.
All of this happened over six years ago, and I've now been married with children for over four years. I moved from the state I was living in (PA) and am now living several states away. I don't have money to give him, but he is acting like he will keep bothering me or might try to sue me if I don't pay him the money.
My questions are: 1) does he have grounds to sue me, 2) can I be forced to return to PA if a suit is filed, or what are the consequences if I do not show up for the suit, and 3) is there anything I can do if he keeps trying to contact me? My husband is already livid that he would even try something like this, and things could get really bad if this guy would try to show up at my door some day. I'd like to be able to have a basic knowledge of my situation. Thank you to anyone who can help, especially for any specifics that will calm both my husband and myself. Thank you!

I found an answer for my first question: the statute of limitations on both oral and written contracts in PA is 4 years. So a lawsuit would not work out of him.
