I have been legally adopted by my step father, who is south african his parents were born in madiera, which makes him portuguese. He does not know where their original marrige certificate is, and apparently needs it to obtain his EU passport. How do we go about this, would we need to travel to portugal to find it, or will someone in the portuguese embassy be able to help, we have been trying for +-2 years. All we need to start this process is the original copy, but we have a copy of original. What else is needed? And does he have to obtain his first in order for my brother and I to obtain ours? And I have been legally adopted as I mentioned, is it possible for me to still apply for such a passport? Your help will be very much appreciated, thank you all.

Try to contact the registration office and see if it is possible to obtain this document by mail through the embassy. There is certain protocol for verification and it must be done by the embassy.
