I updated my Norton Security software over the web and suddenly I could not access a secure web site I needed for distance learning and Microsoft outlook would not check Hotmail nor recognise the passwords inserted and the login access popup kept reappearing. So I removed Norton using the removal tool downloaded from the site. The PC then kept stalling and blue screening then rebooting itself a few times. I thought the best thing to do was reinstall Windows XP from the recovery disk provided. Somehow I screwed this up and the hard disk is now partitioned. The PC boots to the new installation. I didn’t back up the right drivers either so had to go to an internet café and down load the nVidia drivers. However even after that I can't find the right driver for the video controller and viewing web pages is very jumpy now. So I need to know how to unpartition the hard drive and get back to one version of XP with the right drivers. Basically rebuild the PC back to its virgin sate!

If your PC came with a Recovery CD or Recovery partition, then use that to restore it to factory settings. Otherwise boot to your XP CD and choose a FRESH installation.

Make sure you have all your drivers on a CD or other removeable media. You will then need to reinstall your software and restore and data files you backed up.

Scott, You are a gem! I have managed to restore my PC to its former glory. All except one driver which is an 'unknown'. I just can't identify what bit of hardware it is referring to. Anyway everything seems to be ticketyboo!

Thank you so much.
Have a great Christmas!
