I have a New Home treadle sewing machine and have worked on it to clean up both the cabinet and machine head. It was in working condition when I got it (locally on Craigslist) and the seller said it was his mom's and that she had used it up until the time she quit sewing. I have a couple of questions about it. First, I can't seem to get the bobbin shuttle threaded correctly in the casing. When I run fabric through it, the top thread stitched mostly OK, but the bobbin thread was irregular, loopy and knotty. I watched on YouTube, but couldn't see the casing well enough in her video - plus she talked about catching it under a wire on her casing, and the one for my brand doesn't have any wire and is obviously different.
Second, on the top, between the spool pin and the first eyethread, there is a little contraption that can be loosened or tightened to allow the piece that it goes through to move. I don't know if this is something for the tension, or what it's for? So far, I have just skipped it when I threaded the top thread. I called Janome and they told me the machine was made in 1913. That's all I know. Can anyone help me with this? I am trying to track down a manual for it. Thanks for any info!! deby222

Bobbin:
No material. Pull bobbin thread. Close bobbin cover. There should be a notch where the thread can come out. Put foot. Down. Pull thread taught while manually moving machine. Thread should catch and be pulled up from the bottom.

#2. Take pic and post. See go advanced/manage attachments.
