Outlook 2003 (with Symantecs antivirus) - 3 mail servers were working fine, until last week. Now occasionally an email will not leave the outbox. There is no sending/receiving error message. I changed outgoing sending account trying all 3. None work. I checked outgoing email address - No problem. I tried turning Norton A/V scan outgoing email off - did not help. Other messages come and go. Occasionally one (now 3) gets stuck.
Any ideas?

Here's something that maybe worth a try.
In e-mail accounts open the advanved options and check the connection ports.
2068
Especially the highlighted on, as your connection may require an encrypted connection.
Also has there been any changes made to your firewall recently that stops SMTP ?

Thanks for the response!
I don't find site that intuitive and it takes me a while to figure out how to read responses and reply.
I tried encrypting... already suspecting that wouldn't work. I checked Symantecs anti/v settings and, though outgoing mail is scanned, I tried with and without scanning.
I read that changing ports might help when SSL is needed, but I don't use SSL on outgoing email from my default email server.
Now I just realized that Outlook 2003 dates messages and failed messages are posted as date = none. Messages with dates = TODAY get sent. Messages without dates get stuck.
After closing Outlook and re-starting, "opening items" and resending, I managed to get 2 out and a test email. But one is still stuck.
I can send this using webmail... but that's not the point. I want to know why a message would get stuck in my outbox!
I'll just nix this email and keep my eye on the outbox from now on.

Ah-huh!
The problem is when I open an email in the oubox and resend - it gets posted into date:none category and will not leave the outbox. I don't know how /why this happens?
One bothersome solution - Forward the email letter and resend. It creates a copy in the "today date" category in the outbox and gets sent without difficulty. THen just delete the "date: none" file that remains.
What a bother!
